2010 Oil Painting Raffle is Starting this weekend!

If you noticed the 2009 oil painting raffle winner ended up being called “Boy on the Beach” which the new owner retitled “David on the Beach”. Now, the 2010 canvas is ready for the winner to determine what this painting will become! What do you see when you look at this canvas? Do you see Angels? Do you see the tips of a Magnolia Blossom? Or do you see clouds in the sky over a sailboat on the water? You get to decide for a minimum donation of $20.00. This year the raffle is open online as well as in-person. You can submit your entry by clicking on the “How you can Help: tab and then clicking on the “Coffee Cup” picture. This will take you to a paypal screen. If you have a paypal account, please sign in. If you don’t, just fill in the credit card information. Before you submit your payment, click on “Special Instructions for Merchant” and in that box, type your name, email address and your idea for what should be painted on this canvas to make it complete! You will be entered into the raffle which will be drawn in the first week of October after the Sunset at Sunset festival. you can also enter in person if you are going to be in Ocean Isle Beach, NC! All proceeds go to build the Ruth House. Good Luck!

InterChurch Council of Brunswick County

I had the previlege of speaking ot the InterChruch Council of Brunswick County this morning about the Ruth House . I spoke about the history of the organization, how God has blessed us and how they could become involved. I was warmly received as was the message of the Ruth House. God bless the people of Brunswick County’s churches. There are 22 churches of all denominations represented by this Council. We told them that The Ruth House needs funds for the operating budget and building out the house, for the house in particular and we need volunteers. Immediate needs are for additional board members, particularly a Treasuruer and someone who can held fundraising.

The creative ladies of the Widow’s Mite Experience are lending their support to the Ruth House capital campaign fund drive by donating all proceeds of their REVERSE YARD SALE taking place July 16 and 17th from 10am – 4pm both days. Any and all household items of good quality will be taken, tagged and placed on a table immediately for sale. It sounds like a lot of fun and you can accomplish two goals with one action: 1. clean up your house! 2. Change a life by helping to build the Ruth House! I will be there to tell you more about the Ruth House. AND I will be doing the YOU DECIDE oil painting raffle again this year. I will have a partially completed canvas that needs the main subject filled in. You decide what should be painted. Buy a ticket for $20.00. If your ticket is drawn, you win an original oil painting worth hundreds of dollars. Its a good deal and it goes for a good cause…a save secure home for teen girls.

: Sunset at Sunset winner Linda Lynes receives her prize!

The Ruth House raffle winner from last year’s Sunset at Sunset booth has received her painting entitled, “Boy on the Beach”. Linda’s name was drawn and she decided what the subject would be in a painting that only had the sand, sea and sky. She chose to commemorate her son, who is serving in the US military, when he was a child. The painting is valued at $600.00 and Linda’s ticket was $20.00. Not a bad return on investment! We will be doing the raffle again this year. Please come by and see our booth and learn about our progress toward building the house that will provide a home for teen girls in Brunswick County. This year’s Sunset at Sunset will be on October 2, 2010 near the Ingram Planetarium.

But, you dont have to wait to donate to build the Ruth House at Ocean Isle Beach. Just sent an email to execdirector@ruthhouse.org and we will gladly take your donation! The sooner we raise the funds, the sooner we will have girls in a house learning, growing and dreaming in a nurturing, safe environment.

The Lot is being prepared!

Today Jeff, the board member in charge of the building committee, met with the company who will be helping to prepare the lot for building. He has also spoken to an architect who is willing to donate his time to help design the second floor of the modular home and help prepare a site plan. We are moving ahead! Please pray that God sends us the people we need to move through the building process. Please also pray for the funds needed to pay for those services and fees we have to pay as well.

Raising Awareness in Brunswick County

I recently met with the dedicated people of the Brunswick County’s Guardian Ad Litem Program to share with them about the Ruth House and our plans to build a group home for teen girls in Ocean Isle Beach. The meeting further confirmed our goal of building this home is on target and the service is much needed in Brunswick and the surrounding counties. Their stories of teens that need the support and care of a nurturing home continue to encourage me to move forward and press on toward the mark of this calling. It’s not just a job that needs to be done. This is taking part in the fulfilling of the promise God made in Jeremiah 29:11 telling us that he has a plan for our lives. And that plan is for our good and not for harm. Is this promise only for people who were fortunate to be born into a stable family situation? Absolutely not! This is a promise for everyone, and particularly our teenage young ladies who need our support and love to understand who they are and the purpose of their life. Because, you see, everyone has a God-given purpose. Everyone.
I am encouraged to keep moving forward because the need it great. The young ladies who will come to the Ruth House are part of the future of Brunswick County, North Carolina, the USA and the world. We truly want to change the world, one girl at a time.

Our story is being told!

The Ruth House is gaining some interest in the community. We just completed an interview with Sarah Wilson from the Brunswick Beacon. Last week we received a telephone call asking if we’d receive a donation of new, unused make-up. When I suggested the kind lady stop by and see the land where we will be siting the house, she explained her location was Oregon. She heard about our story at the Macy’s department store! We are excited to see what the next steps will be to seeing the Ruth House become a reality.
Our capital fund drive is about to go into full swing. Look for more notices in the near future for events and opportunities to share in giving the young ladies of Brunswick County a stable home and a pathway to a secure future.
